The Williams Lake Stampeders hockey team is hitting the ice this weekend in two games at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex.

The Stampeders play against the Smithers Steelheads. The first game is on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 7:30 p.m., and the second is on Sunday, Jan. 14, at 1 p.m.

This weekend’s games will be the first games of the second half of the season. Head coach Derrick Walters said the first half of the season went well and the Stamps are leading in their division.

There will be some good battles this weekend against the Steelheads, said Walters. If the Stamps win these two games, they’ll be given a first-round bye for the CIHL playoffs.

This is Walters’ first year as head coach, although he was assistant coach for the Stamps for a few years prior and has played on the team, as well.

“There’s been great commitment from the guys [this year], they’re doing really well and winning lots of games. It’s been a pleasure coaching these guys.”

Walters said to expect the Stamps to put on a good show for everyone this weekend.
