Secondary school basketball players will be busy as the new year unfolds, with several games planned in the Cariboo Chilcotin and away.

On Friday, Jan. 12 and Saturday, Jan. 13 the Lake City Secondary School senior girls will also host some games.

They play Peter Skene Odgen Secondary (PSO) on Friday at 2 p.m. and Correlieu Secondary at 6 p.m. On Saturday, they play Sir Alexander Mackenzie Secondary at 10:45 a.m. and Kelly Road Secondary School at 4 p.m.

Fresh from placing third at the Duchess Park Condor Classic in Prince George, the Grade 9 Columneetza boys will compete Jan. 12 and 13 at the Desert Sands Junior Invitational in Ashcroft.

They will host a home game Thursday, Jan. 18 against College Heights Secondary at 3:30 p.m at the Lake City Secondary School campus.

In hopes of getting the community out to watch the game there will be prizes, halftime competitions and admission by donations to the food bank, said coach Travis Nystoruk.

On Jan. 26 and 27 the Grade 9s will play at the Merritt Junior Boys Invitational and Feb. 2 and 3 at Brocklehurst in Kamloops.

“We are presently at 10 wins and five losses,” Nystoruk said.

Nystoruk said in December the Grade 9 boys won an eight-team junior tournament in Williams Lake and the Grade 8 boys won a four-team invitational tournament, 4-0.

The LCSS senior boys play at home Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 5 p.m. against PSO and Thursday, Jan. 25 against Nechako Valley Secondary School at 7:30 p.m.
