PHOTO GALLERY: 30th annual Williams Lake Outdoor Rodeo action-packed

It was the first time it was held at the Williams Lake Stampede Grounds

The 30th Annual Williams Lake Outdoor Rodeo was back in the saddle at the Stampede Grounds Aug. 13 and 14.

It was the first time the rodeo was held outdoors as normally it takes place in April in the Cariboo Recreation Memorial Complex.

Mother Nature cooperated for the most part, sharing some showers on part of Saturday afternoon, while Sunday’s rodeo had nothing but sunshine and blue skies.

Around 400 people attended on Saturday and 600 on Sunday.

Every time rodeo announcer Russell Alison said, ‘let’s hear it Williams Lake,’ encouraging the crowd to cheer on the competitors, he received a loud response from the grandstands and the VIP seating area.

On Sunday, the BC Cowboy Hall of Fame inductees were honoured just before the rodeo.

Inductees chosen for 2020, 2021 and 2022 were all part of the event because the rodeo did not take place in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The inductees and guests gathered in the Let R’ Buck area for a tea beforehand and were then transported into the rodeo grounds on a horse-drawn wagon led by Chilcotin ranchers Roy and Gwen Mulvahill.

Eloise Hobi, a 15-year-old secondary student in Williams Lake, sang the American and Canadian national anthems beautifully during the opening on Sunday and the cowboy prayer was dedicated to the late Sharon MacDonald, Terry Crosina and Willie Crosina, who were all committed to rodeo.
