Williams Lake area youth excel at BC Junior Provincial Finals rodeo

Four local competitors stamped their ticket to nationals

The BC High School and Junior Rodeo Association hosted their Junior Provincial Finals this past weekend May 17-19 in Quesnel, B.C. bringing together the top 12 competitors from both the north and south regions to compete.

Four Williams Lake and area youths captured B.C. championships in their events.

Tanner Loring, Tryan Rivet, Renee Seelhof and Reese Colgate excelled as they competed for the B.C. championships and qualifications to the National High School Junior Rodeo Finals in De Moines, Iowa and the Canadian High School and Junior Finals that will take place in Brandon, Manitoba.

Tanner is from Riske Creek went into the BC Provincial Finals as the 2024 South Region Boys All Around Champion and the 2024 South Region Season Leader in the Jr Saddle Bronc, Jr Bull Riding, Chute Dogging, Tie Down Roping, Goat tying and Ribbon Roping which qualified him in all seven of his events to the B.C finals. Tanner had a stellar finals and brought home the All Around Cowboy, Goat Tying, Saddle Bronc and Bull Riding Championships. Tanner will be competing at the National Finals in the Chute Dogging, Jr Bull Riding and Jr Saddle Bronc Riding in De Moines, Iowa. Tanner also qualified in all seven of his events at the Canadian Finals in Brandon, Manitoba.

Tryan from Williams Lake went into the B.C. Junior Provincial Finals as the 2024 South Region Boys Breakaway Champion and Reserve Boys All Around and qualified in five events. He came home with the B.C. Boys Breakaway Roping Championship. Along with his placings in all five of his events at the B.C. finals, Tryan also cinched qualifications to the National Finals and Canadian Finals as well. Tryan will be competing at the Canadian Finals in the Boys Breakaway, Boys Goat tying, Chute Dogging, Ribbon roping and Team Roping events.

Renee from Horsefly is the 2024 Season Leader – South Region Team Roping Champion and qualified in six of her events to the B.C. Provincial Championships. Renee’s top placings in her events at the finals cinched her qualifications to the National and Canadian Finals in the Team Roping, Breakaway Roping and Barrel Racing events.

Reese from Williams Lake went into the B.C. Provincial Finals as the South Region Season leader Champion in the Barrel Racing, Pole Bending and Breakaway Roping, as well as the Reserve South Region All Around Cowgirl. She competed in six events at the finals. Reese had a great finals and came home with the B.C. Breakaway and Pole Bending Championship and also cinched her qualifications to the National and Canadian Finals in the Breakaway Roping, Barrel Racing and Pole Bending.
