Stamps win 4-3 in nail-biter overtime against Quesnel Kangaroos

They play the Nechako North Stars Saturday, Feb. 3

Stampeders winger Nick Fidanza was probably the team’s most popular guy in the dressing room after a home game win Friday, Feb. 2 at the Central Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex.

In a three-on-three overtime, Fidanza scored a goal causing his team to win 4-3 against long-time rivals the Quesnel Kangaroos.

Helping get that winning goal was Cole Zimmerman who also scored a goal in the second period, Corbin Marcotte and Fidanza assist.

The team’s other goals were all scored in the second period - Jaydon Merritt, Brad Crump assist and Marcottte, Chad Wilde and Fidanza assist.

Nabbing the first goal of the game within the first four minutes was Quesnel’s Ryan Keis, Bryan Albee and Justin Fillion assist.

Quesnel did not score in the second period, but answered back in the third period with Eli Jaruis, Brett Mero and Fillion assist, followed by the tying goal scored by Mero, Albee assist with only five minutes left in the game.

For hockey fans it was a satisfying game.

The Stamps and the Roos took turns leading the score board and the closeness of the score added that bit of tension that makes for a good game.

As was expected, the refs were kept busy with many scraps on the ice.

There were more penalties than goals - 13 penalties in total.

Stamps goalie Zach Straza looked as equally disappointed when the Roos scored that third goal as did Roos goalie Alex Wright when Fidanza scored in overtime.

Tonight (Saturday, Feb. 3) the Stamps play the Nechako North Stars, again on home ice.

The Nechako North Stars are made up of players from Fort St. James and Vanderhoof.

Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
