The call for applications is officially out for local talent interested in performing at this year’s Performances in the Park.
A longtime lakecity event and tradition organized by Angelkeys Music Studio owner and operator Angel Sommer, in partnership with the Central Cariboo Arts and Culture Society, Performance in the Park provides an annual series of free concerts for the community. With lineups made of musicians of all ages, backgrounds and genres, Sommer said she’s hired acts from all over the world in her seven years organizing the event.
“It’s a really nice community get together, it’s very well supported by the community the businesses are on board, it’s something for our town to do on a Thursday night,” Sommer said.
From July to August in Boitanio Park on Thursday nights from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. two mini-concerts are held on stage drawing crowds of hundreds from across lakecity. Sommer said she tries to mix in local acts with the touring acts each night and to that end is hopeful lakecity musicians will answer her call once more for acts.
“I need the applications in by March. 2 at the latest,” Sommer said, adding she has 16 performance times available.

“I try to make the program as varied as I possibly can so I’ve had anything from electronically generated music to country and fiddle music to Celtic and some really eclectic stuff where people would go “what was that?’” Sommer joked. “Everything’s being looked at to try and put a program together to try and introduce them to some new stuff.”
Applications can be made online at centralcaribooarts.com or by contacting Sommer directly at performances@centralcaribooarts.com or 250-305-4784 for more information.
