Williams Lake bodybuilders take top honours in Kamloops competition

Two men north of 50 show you can be fit and not necessarily be young

Williams Lake bodybuilders took top honours in Kamloops over the May long weekend at the BC Cup Natural Bodybuilding Championships —both of them north of 50.

“As this was Larry’s first foray into bodybuilding and physique competition, we were hoping for a good result. We were not disappointed,” said Al Campsall.

Larry Fitzpatrick and Campsall are workout partners and Campsall had not competed in a bodybuilding contest since he was about 34 years old.

Fitpatrick competed in three competitions as a Masters athlete in the 50-plus age group: bodybuilding, mens classic physique and men’s physique, which evaluates muscularity as well as presentation and symmetry.

Fitzpatrick took the top spot in the Masters Men’s Bodybuilding and the Masters Men’s Classic Physique and second place for Masters Men’s Physique.

“Larry has been my workout partner for quite some time now and his progress and work ethic have been exemplary. He looked very impressive on stage,” reported Campsall to the Tribune.

Campsall won first place in the Grand Masters for ages 60-plus Bodybuilding and finished second to Fitzpatrick in the Masters Men’s Classic Physique.

He also took gold in Masters Men’s Physique contest.

“It was a very positive experience for both of us as many friends and family members attended to cheer and heckle. Our fans were easily the most vociferous of all the people attending,” said Campsall.

He said both men are making plans to work on their routines and perform event better in a future contest — which competition they will attend has yet to be decided.
