Two Junior Olympic Program and Cariboo Archers represented the lakecity well at one of the largest and most prestigious indoor shoots in the sport — The Vegas Shoot.
Held Feb. 10-12, Ty Thurow and his sister, Joelle Thurow joined more than 3,000 novice to Olympic-level archers from around the globe.
The Thurows coach, Al Campsall, who joined them at the shoot, said he was proud of both of their performances.
“On day one, Ty struggled, but rallied on the last day to finish 57th out of 114 archers,” Campsall said.
“Joelle came out guns blazing to shoot her best-ever score of 260/300 on day one and then shot well again the next day to finish 22nd out of 45 shooters.”
Campsall noted they were up against some of the best archers in their age categories on the planet.
“The kids rubbed shoulders with Olympic recurve gold-, silver- and bronze-medal winners and professional compound archers from all over the world,” Campsall said.
“They got to practice with and meet a bunch of professional archers on the evening of day two. That was quite a thrill for them both.”
