Williams Lake FC claims title at Penticton May Long Classic

A team of Williams Lake women marched home with a victory from the 54th Annual Penticton May Long Classic May 16-18.

A team of Williams Lake women marched home with a victory from the 54th Annual Penticton May Long Classic May 16-18.

Sandy Young and Cora Kelly both found the net for Williams Lake FC as they beat the host, Penticton, 2-1 in the tournament final May 18.

Keeper Jeannie Garrard also played a role in the win with a clutch, diving save to help Williams Lake defend the lead in the final.

Prior to that Williams Lake downed the Side Line Caesars, 3-2, with two goals from Katie McMahen, including a header, plus another from Young.

Next, Williams Lake beat Coquitlam, 3-0, with Lindsey McCoubrey scoring twice and Young adding another.

In their third game of the weekend, Williams Lake continued its unbeaten streak, knocking off Richmond, 4-1.

Young continued to provide offence for Williams Lake scoring twice, while Leah Watt and Ashley Callander added singles in the win.

Following the final the tournament MVP was awarded to Michelle Thamerus.
