The Williams Lake Secondary School Thunder girls volleyball team travelled to UBC-Okanagan in Kelowna this past Thanksgiving weekend to participate in the 18th Annual UBC-O Ogopogo Classic Invitational Volleyball Tournament.

More than 40 girls teams from around the province from as far away as Edmonton were there to provide high levels of competition.

The WLSS Thunder’s teacher sponsor Holly Crandall said the team was kept busy at the tournament, gaining some valuable experience.

“The girls played six games in a highly competitive tournament,” she said.

While the Thunder didn’t win any of the games, the girls displayed excellent attitudes and had a lot of fun, she said.

“They were excellent ambassadors for our school both on and off the court,” Crandall adds. “As the only senior girls team in Williams Lake this year, the girls have to travel for almost every game they play.

“The commitment of the girls and their parents (as well as their community coaches) to high school sports in our community is really commendable.”

The WLSS Thunder will be back on the road Oct. 21 when they head to Barriere secondary for a six-team tournament.
