United Rentals were crowned champions of the Williams Lake Ladies Indoor Soccer League with a hard fought 5-4 victory over Windsor Plywood in Sunday evening’s final at TRU gymnasium.

United led comfortably 5-2 with just seven minutes to play before Windsor stormed back with two quick goals to cut the lead to 5-4 late in the game.

Denise Wood opened the scoring for United in the third minute to make it 1-0. Lindsay Thiessen replied for Windsor in the 10th minute to make it 1-1. Wood added her second tally of the game a few minutes later to put United back on top 2-1 before Ashley Stewart replied for Windsor to knot things up at 2-2. Right before half time Raylene Dieck scored in the 24th minute to put United up 3-2 at the break.

Leah Watt netted a goal early in the second half and Cora Kelly scored what proved to be the eventual game winner in the 43rd minute to put United ahead 5-2.

To Windsor’s credit, they fought hard and Thiessen picked up her second of the game followed by a Carrie Kerley marker to cut the lead to 5-4 with just three minutes to play. However, they could not muster an equalizer late in the game.

Chelann Davis and Watt combined for the win in goal for United and Windsor’s Quynn Passeri also was solid between the pipes.

In the ‘B’ division the champions were Central Interior Concrete Services Ltd.
