Top hunters honoured at game banquet

It was definitely Kyle Gysel’s night at the Williams Lake Sportmen’s Association’s annual Wild Game Banquet and Awards Saturday evening.

It was definitely Kyle Gysel’s night at the Williams Lake Sportmen’s Association’s annual Wild Game Banquet and Awards Saturday evening.

Gysel went home with no less than six first-place trophies and awards in seven categories.

Gysel has been hunting since he was young and shares his passion with his family who are also club members.

“I’d like to thank the [WLSA] for putting on such a great event, as usual,” Gysel said after receiving his awards.

The following are the results from the Wild Game Banquet and Awards.

Junior Trout: first, Willem Gysel 3 lb. 8 oz.; second, Nicholaas Gysel, 2 lbs. 10 oz.

Rainbow Trout: first, 5 lbs. 8 oz.

Trout Catch and Release: first, Lee Jackman 17 lbs (35 in. length/19.5 in. girth).

Biff’s Pond new award: first, Dwayne Chaffee, 1 lb. 15 oz.

Spring Salmon: first, Kyle Gysel, 17 lbs.

Char Lake Trout: first, Lee Jackman, 6 lbs. 14 oz.; second Kyle Gysel, 3 lbs. 8 oz.

Mule Deer Junior: first, Brayden Feeley, 125 3/8 in.; second Gabrielle Knox, 106 5/8 in.

Mule Deer Typical: first, Kyle Gysel, 164 in.; second Tallon Rolston, 141 2/8 in.

Mule Deer Typical archery: first, Danny Cooper 160 in.; second, Keith Iverson, 152 1/8 in.

Mule Deer Typical Ladies: Catmaine Chaffee, 96 1/8 in.

Moose: first, Steven Rauchensteiner, 141 2/8 in.

Moose Trophy: first, Kyle Gysel 212 4/8 in.; second Bryan McGowan, 187 7/8 in.

Black Bear: first, Danny Simmons, 19 7/16 in; second, Dwayne Chaffee, 17 13/16 in.

Black Bear Junior: first, Aiden Chaffee, 19 10/16 in.; second, Nicholaas Gysel, 18 13/16 in.

Black Bear Archery: first, Lee Jackman, 20 in.

Mountain Goat: first, Lee Jackman, 50 6/8 in.

Wolf: Kyle Gysel, 16 3/16 in.

Open Big Game Aggregate Score: Kyle Gysel, moose 212 4/8 (115 per cent).

Aggregate Archery: Lee Jackman, black bear 20 in. (111 per cent).

Sportsmen of the Year: Dan Mobbs and Roy Betts.

Jack Mackill Memorial Trophy for Conservation: Dan Simmons for the second year in a row for his continued efforts to raise awareness about the need to protect cow moose population.
