Gear heads rejoice. Thunder Mountain Speedway racers will be hammering the throttle this weekend for the track’s first race of the season.

On Friday, fans are invited to come out and meet this season’s competitors and check out their cars.

The event, Tech ‘n Tune, is also a chance for drivers to have their cars checked out to ensure compliance with the 2011 running rules and also provides an opportunity to practice for Saturday’s races.

The pits will be open Friday night beginning at 5 p.m. with the donation of a non-perishable food item.

Saturday, TMS’s Championship Points Race for local drivers hits the track.

Classes include Bone Stock Minis, Thunders, Heartland Toyota Pro Minis and Street Stocks.

Last year’s defending champions include George Giesbrecht (Bone Stocks), Jesse Fisher (Thunder), Tim Roberts (Heartland Toyota Pro Minis) and Derek Christianson (Street Stocks).

Each driver will receive 25 bonus points for their participation in the event.

Gates open at 4 p.m., time trials begin at 5 p.m and racing starts at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors and children under 12 are free. As always, a full concession will be available on-site.
