T-wolves capture third at home tourney

The Williams Lake Bantam Timberwolves finished with a win, a tie and two losses to place third last weekend at its home tournament.

The Williams Lake Bantam Timberwolves finished with a win, a tie and two losses to place third last weekend at its home tournament.

Teams from Coquitlam, Vanderhoof, Prince George, Quesnel and Dawson Creek competed in the six-team tournament from Friday, Jan. 27 to Sunday, Jan. 29 at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex.

The Timberwolves opened its tournament Friday versus Coquitlam in a 4-2 defeat. Tyson Conroy and Pacey Boomer found the twine for Williams Lake.

Saturday morning, Williams Lake tied Vanderhoof 4-4 with goals from Conroy (2), Sam Powers and Jaedyn Shortreed.

Later that afternoon they downed Dawson Creek, 3-2.

Sam Chabot, Owen Kritz and Evan Pigeon scored for the Timberwolves in the winning effort, putting Williams Lake in the semifinal game.

There, despite a goal from Kritz on a setup from Powers, Williams Lake fell 3-1 to Prince George to close out their tournament.

Later, in the gold-medal game, Coquitlam upended Prince George in a high-scoring affair, 8-6.
