After days of rain, the skies opened up for just long enough Sunday to shine down on participants of the Williams Lake Kidney Walk in Boitanio Park.

Roughly 100 participants in Williams Lake joined others throughout B.C. and Yukon in their respective communities to raise awareness and funds for those affected by kidney disease.

And front and centre was Williams Lake’s Nash Overton, 10, who was joined by friends — including teammates from the Williams Lake Minor Hockey Association’s Atom Development Team — and family in support of the walk. Overton was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome when he was two years old. His kidney disease is currently in remission.

Williams Lake Kidney Walk organizer Jaime Macdonald said so far $11,500 has been raised with money still coming from the silent auction.

If you missed this year’s walk, and would like to support the kidney foundation, visit the Kidney Foundation of Canada, BC and Yukon Branch online to make a donation.

Provincially, the fundraising goal of $400,000 has been set by the KFCBCYB.
