Racers once again faced off for fun in a downhill mountain bike race on Fox Mountain on June 27, 2023.

The Williams Lake Cycling Club hosted the fourth in the four-race Sunset DH Series on Aflo Daddy, one of the local favourites, with the racers taking off near the Ross Road trail entrance and ending at the Tourism Discovery Centre.

Conditions were dry, decreasing traction on the trail, and there were some crashes, though no serious injuries during the race were reported.

Racers and organizers gathered after at Fox Mountain Brewing, filling the parking lot with bikes as riders of all ages refilled their tanks back up with food and drinks. It was a smile-filled gathering of riders all enjoying their post-ride highs with friends as they awaited the results.

Prizes were drawn for amongst all participants, with winners of each age class receiving their $5 entry fees back.

Race organizer Dena Baumann said the final series race saw 69 racers enter, with the most women racers yet at 19.

While the races are more about having fun and community-building, they also offer an opportunity for riders to develop their skills, especially young riders who are traveling to race other places.
