The Williams Lake Storm U15 girls rep soccer team overcame eight teams last weekend to bring home gold from the Surrey Mayor’s Cup.

Williams Lake opened with a 1-0 shootout win over the Surrey Football Club Express. Taylor Wessels, Amanda Lane and Paige Call went three for three in the shootout in the victory.

Next, they edged the Abbotsford Magnuson Ford Soccer Club Hurricanes, 2-1, also in a shootout. Wessels, Lane and Jaymie Grove beat the Hurricanes’ keeper in the shootout for the win.

In the team’s third game they shutout the Langley Storm, 2-0. Grove and Mary-Beth White tallied for the Storm.

The Storm then went on to upend the North Shore Girls Soccer Club Wildcats, 5-1, in dominating fashion. Grove and White notched two goals each, while Taylor Brink added a single.

Storm goalkeeper Jessica Rowley was solid in net, allowing just two goals in four games.

“Jessica made a save in each shootout,” said Storm head coach Vanessa Hansen, pointing to her dominance.

“For being the first tournament of the year the girls played great. I think they were a little surprised at how well they played, too. It was nice to get an early start to the season this year.”
