Stamps take to road for two games this weekend

The Williams Lake Stampeders will hit the road this weekend for back-to-back games.

The Williams Lake Stampeders will hit the road this weekend for back-to-back games before returning home Sunday. Jan. 29 to play its final game of the Central Interior Hockey League regular season.

The first-place Stamps, who have a 10-win, three-loss record, will face the Prince Rupert Rampage on Saturday, before heading to Kitimat to take on the Ice Demons on Sunday.

This past Saturday, the Stampeders avenged back-to-back losses against the Quesnel Kangaroos with a 6-4 victory, helped by the strength of a 40-save performance by netminder Justin Foote.

After Williams Lake’s Spencer Brooks and Quesnel’s Justin Fulton traded tallies in the first frame, the Stampeders fell behind 3-2 after two periods where Williams Lake’s Nathan Zurak, and Quesnel’s Alessio Tomassetti and Riley Marsh lit the lamp.

The third period turned out to be the Zurak show as Nathan notched three more in the frame and his brother, Aaron, also found the twine on the power play to close out the 6-4 win. Marsh added the lone goal for the Kangaroos in the period.

Following the team’s road trip, they’ll host the Terrace River Kings at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex on Jan. 29. Puck drop is 1:30 p.m.
