Cross-country skiers at the sold-out 11th Annual Wells International Gourmet Ski gloried in perfect winter weather this weekend to tour beautifully groomed trails and enjoy samplings of unique treats at food stations along the way.

More than 100 participants from 14 cities, across British Columbia journeyed to Wells to take part in the event, including veterans from past events and newcomers. Some parents brought youngsters for the first time and ages two to 80 were represented. Many skiers dressed up in creative costumes with movie themes such as Frozen, Star Wars, and Pirates of the Cariboo-an were featured. Food groups (bananas, mustard and ketchup), as well as a skier wearing a full Tibetan outfit, were also included, amongst many others. The Gourmet ski starts behind the Bear’s Paw Cafe in Wells, and ends at the Jack O’ Clubs General Store, where skiers were rewarded with prizes for best costumes in a variety of fun categories. In between food was sampled from the Ukraine, the Basque region, Portugal, India, with handmade South American Chocolate to cap it off.

After the Gourmet Ski, participants had an opportunity to book a congratulatory dinner at the Bear’s Paw before heading to the Sunset Theatre for a unique Mountain Film Festival of select films on outdoor adventure and mountain culture themes.
