On offer Canada Day will be more than just the Stampede and a celebration of the nation’s birthday but also a skate board competition.

Competitors can sign up at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 1 at the Nathan Matthews Memorial Skate Park for the day-long competition.

The entry fee will be $5.

There will be categories for beginner, intermediate and advanced boarders; helmets will be required for competitors under the age of 19.

Each competitor will have a chance at a three-minute run. All proceeds raised from the event will go to improving the skate park and the Child Development Centre.

Individuals interested in competing are asked to contact Robbie Tate, president of the Williams Lake Skatepark committee, at 250-302-1288.

Both the skate park and the event are in remembrance of Tate’s friend Nathan Matthews, who passed away last year of cancer just prior to his 30th birthday.

The event will run weather-permitting and will be rescheduled if necessary.
