An all-ladies team made up of players from the Williams Lake Slo-Pitch League handily put the province on notice that lakecity slo-pitch is a force to be reckoned with.

The Rowdy Chix, captained by WLSPL president and Williams Lake Rowdies coach Linda Barbondy, travelled to a 10-team women’s tournament in Merritt Aug. 24-25, dominating the field of teams in attendance to hoist the championship.

The team began its winning ways on day one of the tournament, clobbering all three teams it faced in the round robin by way of a mercy rule.

Seeded first, they then took on the eighth-place round robin team, the Rockford Peaches, they’d already beaten in the round robin and advanced, again, with a mercy.

This put the Rowdy Chix up against Victorious Secret in the semifinal where they put forward an 18-6 clobbering of the competition.

In the final, taking on the Bandit Babes, the Rowdy Chix continued to cruise in another 18-6 drubbing to win the tournament title.

“We played six games and in all we mercied, which means we were ahead by 12 runs in the fifth inning,” Barbondy said.

“Our ladies played outstanding. Our hitting ruled all the games scoring the maximum runs early in the games to take an early lead.”

Players on the team were Alisha Beaman, Mandi Holling, Rosey Myers, Tanya Grinder, Christina Lochbom, Michelle Finlayson, Barbondy, Karen Yaworski, Heather Camille, Lesley Allgrove and Crystal Camille.
