Rep hockey teams hit ice at provs

The Williams Lake Midget Tier 2 Timberwolves and the Williams Lake Peewee Tier 2 Timberwolves both began competition at their respective provincial championships on Sunday, March 20.

The Midget Timberwolves are in Salmon Arm, and played game one of their championships Sunday, battling to a 3-3 tie with New Westminster.

Williams Lake got off to a 2-0 lead, with both goals coming off the stick of McKenzie Guardiero.

New Westminster tied it up late in the second period, before taking a 3-2 lead early in the third.

There, Williams Lake’s Jayden Nohr knotted the game up at 3-3.

The Midget Tier 2 T-wolves were scheduled to take on Surrey on Monday at 11 a.m., and play Port Alberni today at 2:30 p.m.

Semi-final and final action takes place on Wednesday, March 23.

The Peewee Tier 2 T-wolves are in Aldergrove and also began tournament play on Sunday.

The T-wolves, playing in Aldergrove, lost game one of their championships to Cranbrook, 6-4.

Williams Lake was scheduled to take on Campbell River on Monday afternoon, and will face Semiahmoo today at 2:30 p.m.

Semi-final and final action is on Wednesday, March 23.

Archers hit

bullseye in 100 Mile House

 

The Cariboo Archers took aim at the 100 Mile Archery Club’s Annual Indoor 3D Shoot this past Saturday and Sunday.

Taking second in the junior compound division was Taylor Pigeon, while brother Blake Pigeon nabbed first in the mini-cub bowhunter category.

In the mini-cub unlimited division, Brayden Feeley nailed first.

Jesse West took first place in the cub unlimited division.

In the women’s recurve category, Sharon Allan sniped first place. Meanwhile, Karen Ramsay took first in the women’s unlimited division.

On the men’s side, John Walker took first in the men’s unlimited division, while Dan Cooper finished second in the men’s open category.

Taking first in the men’s open division was Al Campsall.

The Cariboo Archers Indoor 3D Shoot happens this Saturday and Sunday in Williams Lake at the Trail Riders Arena in the Stampede Grounds.

All archers, regardless of skill level, are welcome to come to shoot for fun or prizes. Spectators are welcome to attend the event.

There will also be an on-site concession with food and beverages.

Badges set to collide at annual fundraiser

 

The Fifth Annual Battle of the Badges charity fundraising hockey game between the Williams Lake RCMP and the Williams Lake Fire Department takes place at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex on April 1.

All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Canadian Cancer Society.

Tickets are $5 and are available from the Williams Lake Fire Department, the Williams Lake RCMP, Cariboo Ski Source for Sports and at the door.

Game time is 7 p.m.

“Every year, this is an entertaining game,” said Williams Lake mayor Kerry Cook.

“No matter who scores the most goals, it’s the cancer society that benefits, so I’d urge residents to come out and support our police and firefighters as they raise money for this important cause.”

Fun Run/Walk goes April 3

 

Spring is in the air and with that comes the annual Nutrition Fun Walk and Run.

The five-kilometre run/walk begins at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex at 11 a.m. and travels gently through the residential neighbourhoods of the city.

Nutritious refreshments, snacks and prizes will be available at the free event.

This year’s theme, “How to celebrate food from field to table,” will involve Interior Health dietician Tatjana Bates, who will be along to help celebrate and provide nutrition tips.

Spectacular Dummy Race goes Sunday at Mt. Timothy

 

Mt. Timothy Ski Area is inviting everyone to attend the hill for its season wrap up, featuring the 2011 Dummy Race this Sunday.

There will also be an open house at the new ski rental building.

Mt. Timothy staff are inviting anyone interested in building a “dummy” for the race to sign up at the hill during the morning of Sunday, March 27.

Season pass sale for the 2011/12 ski season is also underway.
