Penning, sorting held at Stampede Grounds

The Williams Lake Stampede Grounds played host to participants from around the region Saturday and Sunday for a cattle penning and two-person sorting event.

Put on by the BC Team Cattle Penning Association and co-sanctioned by the Central BC Team Cattle Penning Association, teams competed for prize money and accolades for the 2016 provincial series.

In cattle sorting, team members take turns separating cattle into pens, all in a race against the clock.

All cattle are numbered zero through nine. A random number is called at the start by the announcer and the team must then move the cattle from one pen to the another in numerical order. The fastest time wins.

To sort efficiently, teamwork is the key as both riders have to work together to organize the correct cattle and drive them into the pen while making sure wrong-numbered cattle stay out.

On Sunday at the Williams Lake Stampede Grounds, two-person teams competed in sorting.

Open Class

Four Class

1.) Diane Pickering and Al Wilson (13 total head, 110.79 seconds, $255)

2.) Katy Kosinski and Al Wilson (12 total head, 108.33 seconds, $210)
