The Williams Lake Peewee Tier 2 Timberwolves gave it their all; however, they fell just short of the title this weekend at their home tournament.

The home team had an exceptional tournament, claiming a silver medal, losing only to Vernon, who sent a tier one team to the tournament.

Williams Lake began with a 6-3 doubling of the Quesnel Thunder on the strength of a four goal, one assist performance from Daine Dubois, along with a one goal, two assist game from William Paynton.

In game two Williams Lake downed Salmon Arm, 8-1, after a five-point game from Paynton. Following a 6-0 win over Fort St. John, a 7-1 loss to Vernon and a 6-4 win over Prince George, Williams Lake, again, squared off with Vernon in the final Sunday at the Cariboo Memorial Complex.

“They played real well over the weekend,” said coach Parnell Pinette. “We’re pretty proud of them for how they played.”

The final was a 4-0 win for Vernon.

“We’ve showed we’re competitive with virtually all tier 2 teams we’ve played this year,” Pinette said.  “Had one of those [shots] bounced in [against Vernon] when it was 0-0 or 1-0 I think it would have put a little bit more pressure on them. Vernon’s a good team and I think we were maybe a little bit intimidated.”
