Loewen appointed female co-ordinator with BC Hockey

Williams Lake’s Jen Loewen has been appointed to the position of Female Hockey Co-ordinator for BC Hockey.

BC Hockey made the announcement Wednesday, along with appointing a Female Hockey Association Liason, and Female Zone Leads for the 2019/20 season.

Loewen’s position, new to BC Hockey this year, will be a combination of the previous female hockey programming co-ordinator and female hockey development co-ordinator roles.

In her new positition she will:

• Organize delivery of BC Hockey’s ‘Female Hockey Model’

• Assist with conducting seminars and meetings on female hockey programming

• Assist with executing programming alongside Female Zone Leads

• Work with Female Zone Leads and District Associations to create annual female hockey goals for each zone and report to the BC Hockey CEO

Loewen has been instrumental in recent years growing the popularity and interest of female hockey in Williams Lake immensely as female co-ordinator with the Williams Lake Minor Hockey Association.

Cindy Secord (Surrey) will take on the newly-created position of Female Hockey Association Liason, where she will:

• Advsie the Female Hockey Co-ordinator on the operation, strategic planning and delivery model within existing Female Hockey Associations (FHAs)

• Liase with exisiting FHAs and Leagues, as well as prospective FHAs in all areas of BC and Yukon

• Develop best practices for existing and prospective FHAs

Finally, five Female Zone Leads have been named:

• Kootenays - Michael Conci of Trail

• Lower Mainland - Chris Burns of Delta

• Okanagan - Val Kloska of Salmon Arm

• North - Theresa Phillips of Vanderhoof

• Vancouver Island - Laurie Wishart of Victoria

The Female Zone Leads will work with district and minor hockey associations in their zones to deliver female hockey programming, including:

• Organizing delivery of the Female Hockey Model within their zone

• Assisting with facilitating meetings on female programming in their zone

• Creating annual goals and targets for female hockey in their zone (in conjunction with the Female Hockey Co-ordinator)

“This is a significant step forward in our efforts to enhance our female hockey programming,” said Barry Petrachenko, Chief Executive officer of BC Hockey.

“This is an exceptional group of volunteers who are eager to do what it takes to support and grow female teams and associations across BC Hockey.”

The Female Hockey Model will be a key topic at the upcoming 2019 BC Hockey Annual Congress that will be held June 7-8, 2019, at the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel and Conference Centre in Sun Peaks, B.C.

The congress will include dynamic workshops to help grow hockey in B.C. and the Yukon.

All MHAs are encouraged to have a representative attend this female workshop as there will be planning and training for the 2019/20 season.
