Local men’s and ladies’ bonspiel attracts 37 teams

Thirty-seven teams attempted to curl their way to a Williams Lake Men’s and Ladies’ Bonspiel title on the weekend at the Williams Lake Curling Club.

Sunday, 12 rinks converged to determine winners in each of the three men’s and ladies’ events.

Teams began in an ‘A’ draw, playing through bracket-format games before either advancing or being moved down to either a ‘B’ or ‘C’ division.

Sunday’s ‘A’ final on the ladies’ side saw Yvonne Teskey’s rink of Hazel Anderson, Cec Benard and Claire Shephard defeat skip Simone Groundwater’s rink of Yvonne Leclerc, Pam Fisch and Phoebe Bailey.

On the men’s ‘A’ side it was the Vic Leblanc rink of Quesnel beating Williams Lake’s Roger Kaleta rink of Brady Waffle, Mike Gatenby and James Moe.

The ‘B’ final went to skip Don Parsons rink of Colin Sanford, Gordon Ford and Chris Parsons, who beat out Ken Teskey, Ken Kvist, Harve Rickert and Les Stevens.

On the ladies’ side Laura Ball (skip), Mallory Geier, Jessica Ball and Lynn Geier beat Blair Mohr, Darlene Halfnights, Darcy Lazarrrin and Lori Kelly for the ‘B’ title.

The ladies’ ‘C’ final went to Lynn Lanki (skip), Lori Bludhoff, Mariann Gibb and Monica Lachapelle, who beat out the Cindy Evans rink from Wells.

The men’s ‘C’ side went to Kamloops’ Ron Graden, Steve Remesz, Steve Day and Kerry Grove-White, who beat the Brian Purdy rink from Williams Lake.
