Local golf pro wins PGA of B.C. award

When Peter Stellato’s name was listed as a winner at this year’s 2011 PGA of B.C. Golf Awards he said he felt honoured.

Not because of winning an award, but because of the ability to share that award with fellow Williams Lake Golf and Tennis Club members.

“This award would not be possible without the support from our board of directors at the club, our members, my golf club staff and the parents that enrolled their children in our junior program,” Stellato said.

On Tuesday Stellato’s name was announced as the winner of this year’s Junior Golf Leader of the Year.

He was up against regional finalists Dale Schienbein of North Vancouver (Seymour Golf and Country Club), Jim Goddard of Victoria (Cordova Bay Golf Club) and Shannon Glenesk of Vernon (Vernon Golf and Country Club).

“It’s great and it’s an honour,” he said.

“It puts the club on the map, especially association-wise, on the provincial level.”

The PGA of B.C. is hosting an awards celebration evening to honour all recipients and finalists on March 5 at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, in conjunction with the 2012 PGA of B.C. Spring Education Seminar.

Following that Stellato will be up for a PGA of Canada national award competing against each provincial winner.
