A lakecity bowler fell just shy earlier this month at the Provincial Bowling Championships of earning himself a berth at nationals.

Ben Airey won a silver medal in the junior boys division at the event, held March 4 in Langley.

“I qualified here through the zones,” Airey said. “I think I did pretty good. It was tough competition.”

Aidan Buckley of Lincoln Lanes in Vernon picked up the gold medal, beating Airey with a five-game score of 1,219. Airey threw a five-game score of 1,091.

Airey threw games of 242, 197, 150, 304 and 198.

Joking, he said the gold was within his grasp if not for the 150-point game.

“It’s nice to finish second,” he said. It was a good experience and I got to meet a lot of new people.

“You just can’t get too greedy.”
