Hometown cowboy Devon Robbins of Esk’et grits out a ride in the Junior Steer Riding event during the Alkali Lake Rodeo on June 22.

Robbins placed fourth on Saturday with this effort, marking a 69 on this ride.

One of the rodeo bull fighters trots along side, keeping up to ensure that Devon dismounts safely.

The event was co-approved with competitors from both WIREA and the BCRA taking part which made for a long program. The rodeo began at 11 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

It’s been quite a few years since Alkali Lake hosted a rodeo, it’s wonderful to see it revived and back on the rodeo-season-itinerary.

The comeback was spear-headed by Mike Paul and Bill Chelsea, along with their committee and additional Esketemc First Nation community members.
