The Williams Lake Ladies Curling Club finished up its Wednesday night curling league on March 9, following a four-end final and its annual general meeting.

Top order at the meeting was electing the club’s executive, who will oversee operations throughout the summer months and into next year.

Simone Groundwater was re-elected as president, as well as Marla Guldbransen as vice president. Cindy Brady was elected as treasurer and secretary.

Directors were also elected and are as follows: membership — Yvonne Leclerc; draw — Liz Salle; publicity — Donna Shiach; social — Marla Guldbransen; prizes — Laura Ball; ways and means — Gwen Balmer; trophies — Lynn Lanki team.

The league winners, sponsored by Excelsior Jewellers, were Lynn Lanki’s rink of Lori Bloudoff (third), Monica Lachapelle (second) and Marian Gibbs (lead).

Prior to wrapping up the Wednesday’ night league, the club hosted a successful bonspiel in conjunction with the men’s league in February.

Twenty teams attended the bonspiel with nine teams travelling from out of town to attend.

Winner of the ‘A’ event, sponsored by Weingart Enterprises, was Lanki’s rink of Bloudoff, Lachapelle and Gibbs, who defeated Mary Folk’s rink from 100 Mile House to take the title.

Winner of the ‘B’ event, sponsored by The Point, was Yvonne Teskey’s team of Hazel Anderson (third), Cecile Benard (second) and Tillie Parsons (lead) of Williams Lake, who defeated Williams Lake’s Leona McKay’s rink.

Winners of the ‘C’ event, sponsored by Hub International, was Ball’s rink of Groundwater, Yvette Ritchat and Guldbransen.

Next year’s Williams Lake Curling Club Men’s and Ladies’ Bonspiel will take place from Feb. 17-19.

The Williams Lake Ladies Curling Club said they would like to thank all their sponsors and all the volunteer ice makers for a great season.

Registration for the 2011/12 curling season begins in September.

As always, the curling club is looking for new members or former members to take up the game again.
