Junior girls Thunder earn zone b-ball berth

Williams Lake Secondary School played host to the junior girls’ basketball regionals over the weekend with four Cariboo teams battling it out in hopes of earning a berth at the zone championships in Prince George from Feb. 24-26.

Williams Lake Secondary School played host to the junior girls’ basketball regionals over the weekend with four Cariboo teams battling it out in hopes of earning a berth at the zone championships in Prince George from Feb. 24-26.

Competing teams included Williams Lake secondary, Columneetza secondary, Quesnel’s Correlieu secondary and Quesnel Junior Secondary School.

And when the dust settled, WLSS walked away with the regional tournament victory, beating Columneetza (37-24), Correlieu (51-31) and Quesnel Junior Secondary School (48-14) to advance to zones.

Finishing second in the tournament was Correlieu, followed by Quesnel Junior secondary and Columneetza.

Tournament MVP went to WLSS’s Latasha Diaz, who was joined by second-team all-star teammates Dakota Bailey, Megan Cheverie and first-team all-star Sydney Redpath.

From Columneetza Sydney Freeman earned a second-team all-star recognition, while Annie Bloise was named to the first-team all-stars.
