The Williams Lake Judo Club was tossing and throwing its weight around this past Monday at the local club on Mackenzie Avenue.

The club hosted the First Annual Judo Throw-A-Thon, where club members were asked to travel around the community accepting pledges, before showing their appreciation through a timed consecutive throw-a-thon.

The junior club members were paired up with one another and threw each other for two minutes. The club’s senior members performed the feat for five minutes.

“We completed 426 throws,” said Williams Lake Judo Club sensei Jeff DiMarco.

“We had seven juniors and 12 seniors throwing.”

Cole Roberts, a student at the Williams Lake Judo Club, said the event was a lot of fun, but also a workout.

“I had a lot of fun, but it was a hard workout,” Roberts said. “The throwing was the hardest part.”

DiMarco added the idea to host the first-ever throw-a-thon came about before spring break.

“We just decided we needed to do a fundraiser to help out the club,” he said.

“This was the first time we’ve tried this and it went great.

“Thanks to all the people who pledged and donated money to the club — we sweated hard for them.”

Coming up for members of the Williams Lake Judo Club is a tournament for junior and senior members on April 9 in Prince George.
