The Williams Lake Jackrabbits and members of the Williams Lake Cross Country Ski Club were in Quesnel on Saturday, Feb. 15 for the Hallis Lake Elementary School Races.

Altogether, 115 skiers took part in the event. Prince George sent a large contingent of athletes with 24, while Williams Lake had nine Jackrabbits competing, the second-highest of any team in attendance.

There, skiers took part in four different races including the classic individual race, the freestyle individual race, the team relay race (two boys and two girls of any age) and the double-cross event, held at the terrain park.

And when the dust settled Williams Lake skiers Connor Sutton, Ty Thurow, Grace Turner, Madigan Riplinger, Jake Sutton, Daelin Riplinger, Remi Giroux, Joelle Thurow and Jessabelle Trelenberg combined for a total of eight medals.

“We had a lot of fun,” said WLCCSC Jackrabbits coach Rob Sutton, who co-coached the team with Julianne Trelenberg.

“It was a great day for skiing.”

Sutton and Trelenberg added they also had a great time cheering on the athletes and racers, along with the parents who attended.
