The Williams Lake Ice Cats — an all ladies hockey team — took first place late February at the 100 Mile House RE/MAX Tournament.

“There were five ladies teams — 100 Mile House, Quesnel, Lac La Hache, Canim Lake and Williams Lake,” said Ice Cats player Shelley Fletcher.

The tournament, which also featured men’s teams, saw the Ice Cats win all three of its games.

“We won our first game — it was a battle with Canim Lake,” Fletcher said. “We won 3-2.”

Following that, the Ice Cats downed the Hun City Millers in its second and third games.

In its final game, the Ice Cats defeated Lac La Hache by a score of 5-0.

“Our last two games were very defensive games on our part,” Fletcher said. “Our girls managed to shut down their big scorers.”

The Ice Cats, who have been playing under the name for the past 10 years in Williams Lake, practice twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday nights from October to March.

“We’ve been around as the Ice Cats for about 10 years,” Fletcher said.

“We’d love to invite out any ladies that might be interested to come out and watch or play. Our skill level is very diverse from beginner to some very talented ladies.”
