Kids of all ages were ‘Horsing Around’ this week as the Cariboo Chilcotin Child Development Centre Association celebrated its 10th year of hosting the program.

“It’s a great opportunity for children to experience riding a horse,” said Sherry Carter, a supported child development consultant with the CCCDCA.

Held at the Trail Riders Arena, the first week of the program kicked off July 7 and finished yesterday. The second and final session runs from July 14-17. Carter said 36 children are participating.

“It’s totally full,” she said. “The last day is a fun day where we’ll do relay-type games on horses and things like that.”

Riders in the program — some of who face a variety of needs — learn about horse safety and how to properly ride a horse.

Carter said there are nine horses in total, many of which are donated by the owners for the CCCDCA to use during the two weeks.

Shari Mailhot, also from the CCCDCA, and several other volunteers and employees are helping run the program.
