The North Fraser Rapids wrestling team grappled their way to five gold medals and two silver medals during the weekend in Prince George.
Two tournaments took place. First, an elementary school wrestling tournament at Kelly Road elementary. Second, the North Central Zone Wrestling Championships.
In the elementary division, Colin Llewellyn showed heart and determination, coaches Ian Pare and Tyler Scaiano said, as he walked away with a gold medal.
Simon Llewellyn, meanwhile, had a tough battle against strong competition but battled his way to a silver medal.
Kia Pare, who her coaches said goes to the mat with a straight face and is always ready to grapple her heart out, picked up a gold medal.
Klay Pare, after being off part of the season with an injury, came back to the mat to pull off a silver-medal win.
Tanner Scaiano grappled to a gold medal, while Kalub Scaiano duplicated the feat, also bringing home a gold.
At the zone championships, Tyleen Scaiano made her first steps toward attending a national championship. She wiped out the competition to claim the gold medal and advance to the provincial championships in March.
Tyleen said she is determined to push her way to nationals, and that it’s a dream of hers to make it there.
Both meets wrap up the winter wrestling season for Lake City secondary, and coaches said they invite new and returning grapplers back for next season.
