An Aboriginal Badminton Development Camp, hosted by T’exelc and sponsored by Nike, was held Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Williams Lake Indian Band gym.

The camp, led by Chris Sowden and co-ordinated by Bernard Manuel, consisted of skill development, game strategy, nutritional information and a fun mini-tournament.

“Participants gained a greater knowledge and appreciation for the game of badminton, and will now be able to include this sport into their life-long pursuit of fitness and physical activity,” Sowden said.

The camp was hosted in partnership with the Aboriginal Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity Partners Council of B.C.

Held in partnership with Badminton B.C., the one-day skills camp provided a chance for youth to learn about the sport, which is featured in the North American Indigenous Games and the Canada Winter Games.

The camp was for kids ages 10 to 19, who were interested in learning about the game in a positive, fun and professional atmosphere.

The camp was free, and T-shirts and lunch were provided to all.
