It was fan appreciation night June 11 at Thunder Mountain Speedway.

Kids were given the opportunity to hop inside a race car with a driver for a few laps around the track, and fans were treated to the annual lawn mower races, in addition to the local points stock car races.

Another highlight came during the qualifying laps as Arnie Kunka broke his own track record in the street stock class, posting a time of 17.23 seconds.

Kunka’s crew and car were clearly in good shape in the evening, as he went on to win the heat and the main event in the Street Stock class. Taking the dash was Bob Lowen.

In the Heartland Toyota Pro Mini class Chris Roberts swept the events of the evening winning the main event, heat, dash and fast qualifying time.

For Thunders, Jesse Fisher took the main event and dash, while Tim Westwick nabbed the checkered flag in the heat, and Willy Frank posted the fast qualifying time.

Bone Stock driver Donny Kunka finished first in the main event and heat, while George Giesbrecht took the dash and fast time on the night.

Winning the lawn mower race was Brett Melville.

Coming up Stampede weekend, July 1, Thunder Mountain Speedway hosts the Crash to Pass, smoke show competition and King of the Hill. Time trials begin at 5 p.m. with racing to commence at 6 p.m.
