The Lake City Falcons girls sevens rugby team claimed the Bowl Championship Saturday at the BC Rugby High School Girls’ Provincial Sevens.

The tournament, which took place at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver April 21-22, saw all four pools of teams compete on day one of the tournament, prior to Bowl and Cup quarterfinals. Day two semifinals and finals took place.

Day one of the championship saw the Falcons finish with a one-win, two-loss record, putting them into the Bowl Division.

There, they finished with three back-to-back wins making them the Bowl Championship.

In Game one versus eventual tournament Cup Champions Oak Bay, the Falcons fell 29-12 with tries from Emma Feldinger, Jade Meldrum, along with a conversion from Feldinger.

Game two saw the Falcons edge Kamloops’ Westsyde 14-10 with single tries from Feldinger and Madisson Blusson, and two conversions from Feldinger.

In game three the Falcons were defeated narrowly by Elgin Park, 14-10.

In the Bowl quarterfinal the Falcons met Valleyview of Kamloops where they dominated, 29-5. Tries were scored by Blusson, Carrie Lange and Meldrum, plus two conversions from Feldinger.

The Falcons then faced off against Westsyde in a rematch from pool play where they held the Kamloops side to just a single conversion in a 17-5 win to earn a berth in the championship with tries from Lange, Gina Davis and Feldinger.

They next met Yale in the Bowl Final where Lange, Davis, Feldinger and Blusson combined to lift Lake City to a hard-fought 26-20 Bowl Championship win.

The Falcons are now preparing for the 15-a-side zone championships coming up May 5 in Prince George. Should they earn a berth, the provincial 15s championships are being held in Abbotsford May 25-27.
