Twenty-one of the world’s best mountain bikers will blast off Friday for the 11th running of the premier freeride, big-mountain contest, the Red Bull Rampage.

Included in that field will be Williams Lake’s James Doerfling, who is returning to action for this year’s Red Bull Rampage after suffering a broken arm while riding in the Chilcotin in April.

“Rampage is a whole different thing,” Doerfling told the Tribune in June. “It’s such a gnarly competition. If you do good there it’s very awesome. I’m stoked just to get in the top 10.”

The Rampage, held in Virgin, Utah, features the top 12 finishers from the 2015 Red Bull Rampage, while nine wildcard athletes were chosen by the Rampage selection committee of past athletes. Doerfling earned his spot through a wildcard berth.

On Red Bull’s rider biography page Doerfling is described as the following:

“This quiet contender is a favourite of many a fan, but he hasn’t found a way to blow up on the big stage yet. Famous for his steep, rowdy riding, the Canadian cowboy can also trick like a slopestyle master. Watch James Doerfling for big drops, stretched Supermans and exposed lines.”

You can catch all the Red Bull Rampage action online starting at 9:30 a.m. today (Friday) by visiting www.redbull.tv.
