The Ed Ney rink from 100 Mile House was on the button, competing last weekend at the annual 100 Mile Curling Club’s men’s bonspiel. Ney, with teammates Bill Pratt, Mel Dodge and Cameron Bird were the “A” event winners in a 12-team tournament held Jan. 20-22 at the 100 Mile Curling Club.
The “B” event winner was the Ken Teskey rink from Williams Lake with Ron Bisaro, Ken Kvist and John Hoyrup.
Rounding out the top three was the “C” event winner, the Jim Mitchell rink from 100 Mile House, with Harvey Knapp, Al Amundson and Kelly Powell.
The bonspiel finals saw closely matched teams and tight games which put intensity into a weekend of friendly curling. They drew good crowds of spectators who watched the action from the second floor club lounge.
The majority of the participating teams came from the South Cariboo but club president Joanne Doddridge says they hold a good tournament and will put a greater focus next year on drawing more out-of-town teams.
Something that makes the bonspiel special is that female members of the club take on hosting of the men’s bonspiel, supplying all of the food for participants and handling administrative duties.
“It was lots of fun and they were well fed,” says Doddridge.
In March, the men reciprocate for the club’s women’s bonspiel.
Doddridge says the club is well known for this annual event and already has at least 10 out-of-town teams registered. That event takes place March 2-4 at the 100 Mile Curling Club.
In Williams Lake, the Williams Lake Curling Club hosts its Men’s and Ladies’ Bonspiel from Feb.18-19.
