Four lakecity bowlers tossed up a strike in Prince George at the YBC North Zone Bowling Championships.
Cole Broen, Alex Airey, Ben Airey and Caleb Cebuliak, who all bowl out of Cariboo Bowling Lanes in Williams Lake, took on teams from 100 Mile House and north at Nechako Bowling Lanes last Sunday.
Alex and Broen bowled against eight other competitors in the senior division, while Ben and Cebuliak participated in the junior division.
In the senior division Alex claimed the gold medal, while Broen finished with a bronze medal. For his efforts, Alex now qualifies for the B.C. Provincial Bowling Championships coming up March 4 in Langley at Willowbrook Lanes.
Alex bowled a five-game total of 1,446, averaging a score of 289 per game, dominating the competition.
“I was very happy with how I bowled,” Alex said.
“At provincials, I hope to win but realistically with the competition being that much better I’m just hoping to medal.”
Broen, likewise, said he was pleased with his result.
“Any other time it probably would have given me the gold medal,” Broen said.
Broen bowled scores of 1,247 over five games with a 249 average.
In the junior division, Ben also crushed a field of 14 competitors finishing 200 pins over second place.
Ben bowled a five-game total of 1,177 and a 235 average and will also qualify for the provincials in March.
“I hope to do pretty good but I’m just going there for the experience,” Ben said.
Cebuliak, meanwhile, pitched a 955 five-game total for a 191 average on the day.
“I’m happy to finish in second place,” Cebuliak said.
Broen added it was a good tournament and said Williams Lake represented itself well.
“The senior boys are all friends so it’s hard to watch everybody see everybody else win,” he said.
Should either Ben or Alex win a gold medal at provincials they will qualify for the Canadian National Bowling Championships in 2017.
