On the weekend of Feb. 3-5 three local 3064 Army Cadets and five local 202 Chilcotin Sea Cadets participated in the provincial biathlon competition held at Mt. Washington on Vancouver Island.
The cadets were lucky to have sunny conditions — a balmy 8 C. Unfortunately, said coach Capt. Irene Berns, the only thing the cadets came home with was sunburns and great memories.
Competition was fierce as cadets from all corners of B.C. raced for the top positions that would earn them a trip to Nationals in Nova Scotia.
The Williams Lake cadets put their best efforts forward landing them middle of the pack in their respective age categories. As for unit results, the army cadets male team finished in fourth place overall and the sea cadets female team in 6th place.
Individual results were as follows:
Youth Men
5th place- Alex Phaneuf- 28:16
6th place- Joshua Tucker- 28:41
8th place- Matt Nendick- 32:44
Junior Men
8th place- Olund Mork- 32:15
Senior Women
8th place- Emma Davidson- 0:36:23
Junior Women
7th place- Dana Rook- 34:48
9th place- Chantelle Lebrun- 0:35:46
14th place- Kaitlin Jantz- 41:46
Both army and sea cadets along with coach Berns said they would like to thank the following who have helped facilitate training this year.
“Without your partnership, the cadets would not have had as much fun and success,” Berns said.
“A big thanks to: Bull Mountain X-country ski club, Williams Lake Sportsman’s Association, Red Shred’s, Home Hardware, Army cadet sponsoring committee, Navy League Sponsoring Committee, and the parents for their continued support of the program.”
