The athletic achievements of five Lake City Secondary School students during their high school careers didn’t go unnoticed.

On Saturday, June 11 at the LCSS graduation ceremony Justin Hansen, Laura Pfleiderer, Emma Pfleiderer, Carleigh Walters and Vince Austin received Dogwood/District Authority Awards for Physical Activities.

Hansen has had a successful Williams Lake Youth Soccer Association rep and high school career, and even travelled to Europe with the Vancouver-based European Football School to play the beautiful game. He also spent time playing rep hockey with the Williams Lake Minor Hockey Association.

Twins Emma and Laura are multi-sport athletes and have played rugby and basketball during their tenures at LCSS.

Both Pfleiderers and Walters have received provincial and national attention from rugby scouts for their skills on the pitch.

The trio have played a large role in the LCSS Falons’ success at provincial championships during the past two seasons where, this year, they claimed a bronze medal at the 15-a-side championships and a silver medal at the seven-a-side championships.

The Pfleiderers are heading east to Nova Scotia to play rugby at Acadia University, while Walters has committed to playing at St. Francis Xavier University.

During the grad ceremony, Austin gave a nod to one of his favourite sports, downhill skiing, by wearing his ski boots at commencements.

On top of being a accomplished downhill skier,  Austin was a member of the Falcons’ basketball, rugby and volleyball teams.
