Participants from Quesnel and 100 Mile House joined many shooters from Williams Lake in the annual New Year’s Day turkey shoot at the Williams Lake Rod and Gun Club.

Warmer than usual temperatures helped encourage more eager, sharp shooters who were challenged by the unpredictable winds.

A total of 29 events divided into three different skill classes — novice, intermediate and expert — allowed for plenty of winners to take home gift cards, pairs of chickens, steaks, bacon packs, hams, packs of shrimp and, of course, turkeys, along with some alcoholic beverages for the shooters of age.

In novice Braeden Pickard won twice and Kyle Pigeon won once.

In intermediate Ernie Davidson, Chuck Pigeon, and Rob Altmaunshofer all won twice and Dan Mobbs, Jeff Piwek, Ted Swift, George Chignell, Chris Dukelow, Malcolm and Jim Pickard took home prizes as well.

In expert Adam Veley, Marcel Bauer, Gord Johnson, Dan Mobbs were all winners.

In the non-winners event Denise Swift was the winner.

In the buddy shoots Reid Williston/Marcel Bauer, and Adam Veley/ Peter Mallic, were the winners.

A large number of shooters took part in the Annie Oakley and the Bushwacker with Reid Williston being one of the winners in each, and also taking home the door prize of a Save-On Gift Card.

Event organizers said shooters are looking forward to Quesnel’s Turkey Shoot which takes place in May.

The Williams Lake Sportsmen’s  Association also added many thanks are in order to all the volunteers who helped with the huge success of the shoot, and everyone who helped provided the delicious lunch.
