The eighth class of students from the Northern Medical Program celebrated their graduation on Saturday at an event in Prince George.

The 30 graduates received their shingle cut out of beetle pine wood and their long coat as they transition from students to doctors. These graduates now move into two to seven years of medical residency and fellowship training, depending on specialty.

Ryan LeBlanc of Quesnel won the Dr. Joe Sidorov Award of Excellence in Internal Medicine at the graduation celebration, and Jordan Koopmans of Prince George received the Dr. Tony Eckersley Memorial Award for family/emergency medicine.

The Class of 2015 includes 14 graduates from Northern BC, including Jean Oosthuizen from Williams Lake.

Twenty of the graduates will be entering family practice residency programs, with nine of those training in northern BC.
