As the municipal elections kick into gear the roads and streets will come alive with election signs once again.

The voter turn out for municipal elections has been embarrassing to say the least and always disappointing when you consider the eligible voters list for Williams Lake, but maybe this time more voters will understand just how important this election is to them.

In Williams Lake we have an interesting race for mayor with incumbent Kerry Cook and two previous mayors running for the job — Scott Nelson and Walt Cobb.

Incumbent Cook has managed to stay away from any controversy during her term; however, the town has been stagnated during her term in office with no growth in the tax base or business opportunities.

Then we have Cobb. At times his views and actions put him so far right he may turn left; nice guy but maybe his time has passed. And Scott Nelson, the Energizer bunny that never stops. During his term as mayor, he brought us through some difficult economic times by pushing ahead with projects and securing new business while never talking negative, just growth and opportunity.

With today’s economics we need to be aggressive and forward thinking to grow and prosper.

Williams Lake needs a salesman and strong advocate for the City to secure our fair share of federal and provincial dollars and push our city forward to secure a strong future that protects our investments in our homes and business.
