Tolerance poor substitute for acceptance

Editor:

I just felt compelled to write a quick note in response to Dick Munro’s letter “Tolerance New Year’s resolution,” Tuesday, Jan. 18 Tribune.

First, tolerance is a poor substitute for acceptance.

When you are willing to tolerate, you are claiming some sort of superior high ground, which is obvious from the tone and content of your letter.

Second, seven plus five is obviously 12; but that 12 per cent was not applied to nearly the wide range of product and services the new HST is applied to.

However, this “glaring politically motivated” letter of yours missed a few very important reasons as to why people are in revolt; and it is in spite of who is leading the charge not because of them.

We were told “no HST,”  then we were never consulted about its implementation. We were lied to about who knew what and when from within the “elected” party.  Contrary to your statement, the economy is not rebounding. Some sectors are improving despite the HST, while others, like restaurants and such, are going broke.

Now that the HST is in, and the cost to reverse it is too great, I will not be calling for its reversal. But the Liberals will never get my vote again.

Problem is who will I vote for? A party that allows their leader to be bullied out of her position by a vocal minority and they want to be representatives in a democracy?

So, Dick, I will accept you and your right to belittle your opponents, that you will “tolerate,” and I will accept them and their right to exercise their legal privilege to acts against elected representatives who act dishonestly to get elected and then act like autocrats.
