One of my favourite times of year is only a few days away. Next week the 95th annual Williams Lake Stampede takes place in our community — and I can’t wait to celebrate together. Every year we welcome thousands of people from around B.C. and across the country to take part in days of activities, events, competitions, and entertainment.

It’s an incredible weekend, and I know that the hardworking and passionate team of volunteers has another great year in store for us. It’s time to get ready for the parade, pancake breakfasts, performances and of course, the best rodeo action you will see anywhere! We are also looking forward to welcoming many exciting special guests, including Rick Hansen who will be participating in the parade, back to town for the weekend to join in on the festivities.

Whether you volunteer at the Stampede every year, or will be attending for the first time, I encourage you to make the most of the weekend, embracing the community spirit and all the hard work that has gone into making this event a success. Year after year, the Stampede brings us together, filling our city with joy and excitement, giving us the opportunity to make priceless summer memories and connecting us to a part of our community’s heritage.

I want to say a heartfelt thank-you to the Stampede volunteers, board of directors, and all the community organizations who are involved over the course of the whole weekend, as well as the sponsors who make this possible every year — we are so grateful for your contributions.

It’s hard to believe that it’s already June and we only have a few more days to wait for the start of this year’s Stampede. I know that it’s going to be an amazing few days, and I look forward to seeing many of you on the Stampede grounds over the next week.

So, Williams Lake, grab your hat, paint your window, and get ready for the best weekend of the year.
