Prosperity would harm the environment

We are Grade 4 and 5 students in Mrs. (Connie) Burns’ class at Nesika Elementary School in Williams Lake.

We don’t want Prosperity mine to be built because it will pollute the air and some people cannot take the fumes and may die.

The air shed will be polluted. When the pollutants fill the air, the environment is destroyed.

Some more reasons we think they should not build the mine is because it will wreck the habitat. It will ruin the animals’ homes and nature, and the mine will disturb the animal migration.

Plus the mine will endanger species.

It will disturb a lot of animals that live there, and there may be a few species in the area that will need to relocate and may become a nuisance to residents.

A couple more reasons are that you can hunt and fish in the area right now and that will be disrupted.

If there are farms and ranches close by, the mine will contaminate the water supply.

It is a three-hour drive from here to there. People from Williams Lake may not even get to work there because it is too far from where they live.

That is what happened with Mt. Polley.

We would really like to not open the mine because negative effects will happen if it does. If it is not opened, we will keep our clean air, our tourism vital, and our wildlife sustainable.

Thank you for listening to our opinions on the mine being built.
